Ashrawi calls for practical international measures to "end injustice" against the Palestinians

Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi demanded on Thursday, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, on Friday, practical measures to "lift injustice" against the Palestinians.

Ashrawi said in a statement that solidarity with the Palestinian people "must come out of its slogans and celebrations into actual implementation on the ground by translating this solidarity into practical and concrete steps."

Ashrawi added, "It is time to lift the injustice of our people who aspire to live like the rest of the people of the world with freedom, dignity and long-awaited justice by committing the occupation effectively and seriously to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy and work in accordance with the principles of international law and international humanitarian law."

Ashrawi considered that the UN system "did not give the Palestinians a minimum level of justice, and increased the emergence of extremist populist regimes that have implemented new division operations in the State of Palestine and the region in general, and provided the occupation with a cover to continue its crimes based on ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, apartheid and settlement expansion."

She stressed that "this dangerous phase of the Palestinian issue requires the international community to assess the amount of historical sacrifices made by the Palestinians through the process of correction, which must begin to recognize the State of Palestine and the implementation and follow-up of all UN resolutions and end the occupation."

Ashrawi also called on Israel to "prosecute, hold accountable and hold Israel accountable for its crimes, and to stop dealing with them according to double standards. This correction will end by compensating the Palestinian people for this historic injustice that continues to be experienced."

It is noteworthy that the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People was approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1977 on the anniversary of the decision to divide Palestine between Jews and Arabs No. 181 in 1947.
