At least 82 people were killed and dozens injured as a result of a powerful earthquake on Sunday in Indonesia's Lompoc island, local authorities said.

"Thousands of people from the island of Lompoc have been evacuated," said the anti-disaster officials. The residents of Bali Island have felt the earthquakes caused by the earthquake.

"The majority of the victims are residents of the northern and western parts of the island," said the head of the Agency for Natural disaster mitigation in West Nusa Tenggara province, which includes Lompoc, Agong Pramukha.

"The process of collecting information on victims is still underway," he added.

Earlier in the day, the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) announced that an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale hit the island of Lompoc at 11:46 pm (UTC), where the epicenter was located 49 km north-east of Mataram, 10 kilometers deep.
