China will lead 5G smart phone shipments worldwide

China expects to drive smart phone shipments with 5G technology in 2023, according to an industry report.

About 800 million smartphones from 5G will be connected in 2023 globally, while China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao account for 34 percent of total shipments, according to a report released by Canales, a global technology analyst.

In 2020, 17.5 percent of smartphones shipped in China will have a 5G technology, while the figure will rise sharply to 62.7 percent in 2023.

The investments of Chinese operators in the 5G will reach 5 billion US dollars this year, said Mo Jia, an analyst at the company, adding that between 70,000 and 90,000 base stations will be built across the country.

Government initiatives to accelerate the development of the 5G are a strong and effective engine for faster implementation in some markets, such as China.

The company also noted that China is also home to many of the major suppliers of 5G devices and smart phone vendors, who will be responsible for a strong marketing push over the next few years.

The company added that the full deployment of the "5G" will take longer and will be more complex compared to the previous generation to achieve the benefits of "5G", in addition to enhancing mobile broadband Internet.
