China is facing the worst epidemic wave since the start of the Corona pandemic

China is facing the worst epidemic wave since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, at a time when the highly contagious mutant Omicron has spread to more than 12 provinces.

Beijing - (AFP) - On Sunday, China recorded 13,146 cases of Covid-19, the highest number since the peak of the first wave more than two years ago, at a time when the highly contagious mutant Omicron has spread to more than 12 provinces.

The National Health Committee said in a statement that "there are 1,455 patients who showed symptoms... and 11,691 cases without symptoms... and no new deaths were reported" from the virus.

A stone has been imposed since Saturday on about 25 million people in the Chinese city of Shanghai, nearly all of its residents.

In recent days, China's economic capital has become an epidemic epicenter as the mutant omicron is spreading rapidly.

While the numbers are low compared to many other countries, they are high for China, where the authorities are implementing a zero-Covid infection strategy, aimed at preventing the emergence of new infections.

This policy includes many measures, including isolation, the issuance of a small number of visas, and long quarantine upon arrival on Chinese territory or even tracking movements through mobile phone applications.
