Magdy Dahir, Deputy Director of Primary Care at the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, revealed today, Tuesday, that two cases were transferred to the isolation hospital after they were diagnosed with the Coronavirus after they came from the West Bank through the Beit Hanoun checkpoint, "Erez".
In an interview with Al-Aqsa local radio in Gaza, Dahir said that it is not certain what mutated strain infected the two cases, and they were transferred to isolation as a precaution.
He indicated that the type of the suspected strain was not examined, and they were diagnosed with Corona patients normally, indicating that they were isolated as new mutations are rampant in the West Bank.
He indicated that the Ministry in Gaza did not have the ability to diagnose the new strains, indicating that there are efforts to provide them in cooperation with the World Health Organization.
He pointed out that the situation in the Gaza Strip is still worrying, adding, "We are exposed to a new wave, and the difference between the old and the modern strain is the speed of spread only."
He added, "We fear in light of the citizens´ indolence and lack of commitment to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health to take preventive and safety measures from the beginning of the outbreak of a new wave of the epidemic in the coming days."
"There is a slight increase in the number of registered cases, and we are dealing with reality by providing the necessary needs and families to receive service in hospitals, and we monitor the health situation closely and continuously," he said.
He pointed out that the vaccination process is still valid for medical staff, patients and the elderly, noting that 360 people have been vaccinated and there are 150,000 citizens registered.
