A new round of military escalation between the Palestinian factions in Gaza and the Israeli occupation began hours on Sunday evening and almost led to a new war between the two sides, before they stopped on Tuesday evening under the patronage of Egyptian, Qatari, Norwegian and UN-sponsored.

The unprecedented military escalation began on Sunday evening, when Israeli troops, particularly those in the Gaza Strip, were uncovered, and in an armed clash that resulted in the killing of a Palestinian officer and seven Palestinians, including a leader of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, prompting Hamas to threaten retaliation.

Israel said that the covert operation was a process of intelligence gathering and not a target of assassination or kidnapping.

Since Sunday evening, Palestinian factions have responded by firing a number of shells towards Israeli towns adjacent to the Gaza Strip, and subsequently a strong response to the Israeli field operation in the Gaza Strip.

On Monday, in the afternoon local time, Palestinian resistance factions began firing intensive rockets into Israeli towns, and the city of Ashkelon, more than 20 kilometres away from the Gaza Strip.

The Islamic Jihad movement in Gaza revealed that it had used a new type of rocket for the first time in the shelling of Ashkelon.

During the 24 hours of confrontations, the Palestinian resistance from Gaza launched 460 missiles and rockets, the Iron Dome system intercepted approximately 100 rockets, 15 shells landed inside Israeli towns adjacent to the strip, and six shells directly hit residential buildings in the city of Ashkelon, Sderot and Ntivot.

Palestinian missiles killed one person, 55 Israelis were injured in the 24 hours, and an anti-tank missile fired from Gaza hit a bus that Hamas said was being used by Israeli soldiers, and a soldier was seriously wounded.

On the Israeli side, since the escalation between Hamas and Israel in two days, the Israeli army has targeted 160 targets within the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli shelling killed 7 Palestinians and wounded dozens, among the targets bombed by Israel, the Al-Aqsa satellite building and a residential building in Gaza City.

At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Palestinian factions announced a ceasefire agreement with Israel under Egyptian auspices.

The Joint chamber of Palestinian resistance factions said Tuesday evening that an estimated Egyptian efforts had resulted in the stabilization of the ceasefire in Gaza between the resistance and the Israeli enemy.

The Joint chamber of Resistance factions said that the resistance will abide by this declaration as long as the Israeli military adheres to it.
