The "Union of Arab Jurists" welcomed the decision of the International Criminal Court to extend its jurisdiction over war crimes committed in the Palestinian territories, calling on the court to open an investigation into the crimes committed by the Israeli forces against the Palestinian people.

The Jordanian-based union condemned in a statement today, Wednesday, "the crimes of the Israeli and Zionist occupation against the Palestinian people."

The Federation called on "the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to exercise its powers in accordance with Article 16 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations."

In turn, the representative of the Federation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the international lawyer Katib Al-Shammari, expressed his deep satisfaction with this decision, describing it as "the historical development in the international judiciary."

"The decision will enable the International Criminal Court to examine the crimes of the Israeli occupation that it committed against the Palestinian people," said lawyer Al-Shammari, a member of the International Committee for the Defense of Detainees in Guantanamo Bay.
