Shtayyeh calls on Congress to pressure the Trump administration to back away from unilateral steps against the Palestinians

Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh met with a US congressional delegation in Ramallah on Wednesday to discuss the latest political developments.

"We rely on the wisdom of members of Congress to pressure the US administration to backtrack on the unilateral steps it has taken toward the Palestinians," the prime minister said.

"We signed many agreements with Israel and did not abide by them and violated them. All the peace talks under the auspices of America failed because of Israel, there is no clear and agreed reference, there is no specific time frame for these talks, and there were no sincere intentions from Israel," Eshtayeh said.

During the meeting, Shtayyeh pointed out that the talk in Israel is not between those who want peace or the continuation of the occupation, but between those who want to maintain the status quo and those who want to confiscate more Palestinian land in order to eliminate any chance of establishing a Palestinian state.

"Israel is waging a financial war against the Palestinians, especially by deducting the salaries of the families of the prisoners and martyrs from clearing money and tax revenues, and stealing from them," he said.
