OCHA: Israel has demolished or confiscated 178 buildings in the West Bank since the beginning of the year

A UN report said today that Israel has demolished or confiscated at least 178 Palestinian buildings in the West Bank since the beginning of this year.

A report issued by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs "OCHA" in the Palestinian territories stated that the Israeli demolitions and confiscations resulted in the displacement of 259 people, including about 140 children.

He pointed out that the occupation authorities recently abandoned nine families, including 60 individuals, including 35 children, as a result of the demolition of their facilities in the Bedouin community of "Humsa Al-Buqi`a" in the Jordan Valley.

The report warned that all these families are at increased risk of forced displacement, at a time of exacerbating the vulnerability of these families due to the winter season and the continuing crisis of the new "Corona virus".

The report noted that on the eighth of this month, the Israeli Civil Administration, accompanied by the occupation army, returned to the Homsa al-Buqi’a community and confiscated or demolished 16 residential buildings and other livestock pens.

According to the report, 13 of these buildings and barns are funded by donors, as they were provided as humanitarian aid in response to two incidents that occurred on the 1st and 3rd of this month, during which 46 structures were demolished or confiscated.

The report stated that during the confiscations carried out on the eighth of this month, the Israeli Civil Administration informed the residents of the community that any new buildings that are built or donated will be demolished or confiscated.
