Michael Link: Israel´s behavior is "an insult" to international law

The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) on Sunday praised the comments of UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Michael Link, describing Israel´s conduct as an "insult" to modern international law.

A statement issued by the Department of Human Rights and Civil Society in the PLO that the statement by the UN official, "is a clear evidence of the continuing violations and violations committed by Israel against the Palestinian people in all categories."

"The Special Rapporteur´s reference to the obstacles faced by Palestinians in the Israeli legal system, which makes their access to justice and justice far away, is a confirmation of the politicization of the Israeli judicial and legal system in favor of the policies of the extreme right-wing government."

The statement highlighted LINK´s statements on house demolitions, settler violence, detention and placement of children under house arrest based on confessions extracted from them and forced to pollute the Palestinian environment.

The statement also asserted that Israel´s collective punishment of the Palestinians, the siege imposed on Gaza and the continued expansion of the settlements constitute legitimate legal arguments to condemn Israel and try it before the competent international courts.

It is noteworthy that a Palestinian delegation headed by a member of the Executive Committee of the PLO Ahmed Al-Tamimi, met with Link in the Jordanian capital Amman on Thursday to put it in the form of "violations" of Israel against the Palestinians.

During the meeting, al-Tamimi condemned the Israeli government´s decision to prevent Mr. Link from entering the Palestinian territories, forcing him to meet in the Jordanian capital of Amman.

For his part, Mr. Link praised the decision of the Palestine Liberation Organization to establish a department concerned with human rights and expressed full readiness to cooperate with it and thanked the Palestinian delegation for coming to Amman to meet with him.
