The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Tuesday that its fiscal deficit exceeds $ 150 million.
UNRWA spokesperson Sami Mashash said that the agency is suffering from a deficit of $ 1.2 billion. In internal issues related to them affected.
Mashacha stressed that the investigation file on internal issues has been exaggerated to weaken the agency, noting that the investigation is still ongoing and is being carried out by a specialized team of the United Nations Secretariat in New York.
He called for the need to separate this investigation with internal procedures and between the role, status and services of the agency, especially as it is in the process of renewing its mandate for three more years in September. He pointed out that the agency has succeeded in bringing support from 17 countries for several years.
"The Agency has been able to establish a relationship with the European Community, UNRWA´s largest donor, and now conduct an advanced dialogue with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as with the World Bank, as part of a more stable financial strategic future in the coming years."
