Israel began its withdrawal from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Tuesday.
According to the Yediot Aharonot website, the decision to withdraw officially came into force one year after a decision on the matter, in a move similar to a US decision.
"UNESCO is a body that continues to rewrite history through attempts to erase the Jewish connection to Jerusalem," said Danny Danon, Israel´s ambassador to the United Nations. Israel will not be a member of an organization whose goal is to work against it. "
