Abdel Nasser Farwana, a specialist on Palestinian prisoners and editors, said that the occupation forces have arrested 20 citizens from the Gaza Strip since the beginning of this year.
"On Thursday, 5 Palestinians were arrested while traveling through the Beit Hanoun / Erez checkpoint in the northern Gaza Strip, and 3 others were at sea where they work in the fishing profession. The rest were arrested after they crossed the eastern and northern borders of the Gaza Strip," he said. Towards the occupied territories in 1948.
Farwana pointed out that the occupation forces arrested 134 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip last year.
He added that "the continuous arrests of the residents of the Strip, in addition to the exposure of many citizens who move through the Beit Hanoun / Erez checkpoint, from interrogation and sometimes arrest, requires action from all concerned authorities to pay more attention to this file in all its aspects."
He called for educating citizens on what they might be exposed to if they move through the aforementioned crossing, or after they are arrested during their work at sea, or after they are forced to infiltrate and cross the borders.
He pointed out that the forms of detention and arrest are numerous and what the Palestinian citizen is exposed to in all governorates by the occupation are many, and the goals of the occupation behind that are multiple, but the person´s knowledge of them and their education and fortification by means of facing them, reduces their risks and negative impacts on the individual, family and Palestinian society as a whole.
According to Farwana, the number of prisoners in the Gaza Strip in the prisons of the occupation has reached 295, in addition to two, and these constitute approximately (6%) of the total prisoners.
The prisoner, Dia al-Falouji, who has been in detention since October 10, 1992, and who is serving a life sentence (life) is the oldest and the dean of prisoners of the sector.
