The International Center for Legal Studies called on the international community to move towards immediate and practical measures to stop physical violations against Palestinian journalists and to provide necessary protection for the freedom of press.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the UN Secretary-General, the International Federation of Journalists, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and parliaments around the world spoke about Israeli violations against Palestinian journalists. PCHR called on the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities and to exercise its legal role in light of the continued violations and crimes committed by IOF against Palestinian civilians. He condemned the continued targeting of press crews by the occupation authorities, despite the special protection they enjoyed in accordance with the rules of international humanitarian law. He stressed the high frequency of targeting the occupation authorities "systematic" against journalists and journalists working to cover peaceful protests on the separation fence with the Gaza Strip. He reported that the number of journalists targeted about 300 journalists, including a journalist such as Yasser Murtaja and journalist Ahmed Abu Hussein, some of whom were seriously injured and then unable to continue normal life. Since the beginning of the March of Return and the breaking of the siege (March 2018), journalists Yasser Murtaja and Ahmed Abu Hussein have been killed, while 353 journalists have been shot and gas-fired directly, including 70 journalists who have been shot dead since the beginning of 2019.
