The Israeli occupation authorities imposed a fine on a Palestinian family of 50,000 shekels (about 13,000 dollars and $600), after hundreds of people took part in Umm al-Fahm at the funeral of her son who tried to stab an Israeli policeman, a Hebrew newspaper reported.
On Tuesday morning, the body of the young man Ahmed Mahmeid, who tried to carry out an operation to stab an Israeli policeman in occupied Jerusalem last Friday and was killed by gunfire near an entrance to the Al-Aqsa Mosque Square, was held in Umm al-Fahm in the northern Occupied Palestinian territory.
According to Hebrew newspaper Ha´aretz, the Israeli police claimed to have handed over the body of the young man to his family in exchange for a pledge not to involve more than 150 family at his funeral, and if the police were not bound, the family would be fined.
The police said in a statement issued this morning that they had decided to open an investigation against the family members, due to the participation of about 1,000 people at the funeral and their chanting slogans described by the police as "inflammatory", according to the Yisrael Hume newspaper.
According to Mahmehamid, the young man was suffering from psychological problems and the motives of the appeal process were not of a national background.
A family member accused the police of "rushing to kill him only because he is an Arab."
