Indonesia on Tuesday called on Palestine to grant full membership to the United Nations, condemning the Israeli settlement of the occupied Palestinian territories and implying any American approach that is not guided by a "multilateral mechanism."

"There is a purpose behind my presence here," said Indonesian Foreign minister Ratno earmarked during the Security Council´s monthly debate on the Middle East. It is the expression of Indonesia´s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause. " Indonesia became a non-permanent member of the Security Council at the beginning of the month for two years.

"Palestine is a full-fledged member of the United Nations and it is natural and important," she added.

Palestine is now under an observer status, and for the status of a Member State it must be recommended to the General Assembly by the Security Council, where the United States has the right of veto.

"The Palestinian issue determines the credibility of the Council," she said, condemning the "provocative actions" of Israel and the "continued expansion of illegal settlements."

"The continuation of the settlement has made the credibility of the Security Council a mockery," said Palestinian ambassador to the United Nations Riyad Mansour, calling on countries that have not done so to "recognize Palestine" and "support their demand to become a full-fledged member of the United Nations."

The Indonesian minister also implicitly attacked the United States, stressing that any peace process in order to be "legitimate" should be pursued as a "multilateral mechanism based on internationally agreed standards." Otherwise, any peace plan  "will fail".

"Internationally agreed standards are not options or a list from which we can choose what we like," said French ambassador François Deller. It is, in its entirety, the bedrock of any peace plan and any future negotiations. "

For his part, Israel´s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said Iran, "Israel´s obsession," spends "seven billion dollars a year to finance terrorism" in the Middle East.

"Four billion dollars of them go to the Syrian regime," "one Billion to Hezbollah" and "100 million to Shiite militias" in Iraq, 50 million and 70 million to the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements in Gaza, he said. The Israeli ambassador  "Ten Million" also goes to the Houthis in Yemen.
