The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip has warned of an unprecedented humanitarian and health catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, as a result of the discontinuation of five additional hospitals, which include specialized services, which are the backbone of the health system, and whose service depends on hundreds of patients

"For the first time since the siege of the Gaza Strip, we stand unable to make another effort to allow these generators to work for other hours," said Mohamed Abou-Salamiyah, director of the hospital for cancer patients in Gaza, who is not in a position to do anything other than the medical services in Ministry hospitals  ".

"Talking about the discontinuation of the hospitals of Rantisi, Al Nasr Children´s Hospital, Laayoune Hospital, Psychiatry hospital and Abu Yousef al-Najjar hospital after the interruption of the services of Beit Hanoun hospital is a testament to the seriousness of the crisis, and the health services have become a disaster," he said.

"With the daily readings and field reports from the technical and administrative teams, which indicate that the fuel tanks in the hospitals are less than 17% of the remaining fuel, in the light of the unprecedented need for electricity, with increasing hours of power outages," Abu Salamiyah said. Electrician  ".

That meant that the Ministry´s austerity measures were in its final moments, and the announcement of the complete cessation of those generators was at any moment.

The Ministry of Health sent an urgent appeal,  "to the educator and all concerned, to depart from the state of silence, which cannot be predicted with a real breakthrough and serious steps to dismantle the crisis cycles and protect the therapeutic rights of patients."

A few days ago, the ministry warned that some health facilities and services would stop in a few days due to the severe fuel crisis.

The ministry suffers from several crises, due to the failure of the Al-Wefaq government in Ramallah to assume its responsibility in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli blockade imposed over 12 years ago.

According to the ministry, Gaza hospitals require 450,000 litres of fuel per month to operate generators in case of power outages of 8-12 hours a day.
