Body parts found while searching for a missing woman in Britain

Human remains were found in a bush area in England, where the police were searching for a missing woman last week.

Sarah Everard, 33, disappeared after leaving her friend's house in south London shortly after 2100 GMT on March 3.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Cressida Dick, told a news conference on Wednesday that human remains were found in a forest in Ashford, Kent, 78 km from where they were last seen.

"We cannot confirm any identity. It may take some time," she added.

Investigations showed earlier that the policeman who was detained in connection with Sarah Everard's disappearance in London earlier this month was not on duty at the time of her disappearance.

"Our investigations indicate that this policeman was not on duty at the time of Sarah's disappearance," Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nick Evgriff told reporters on Wednesday.

The policeman serving in Kent was arrested Tuesday, along with a woman who was being held on suspicion of helping someone behind the disappearance.

Police have not confirmed whether the policeman knew Everard or the reason for his arrest.
