Erekat: The leadership decided to initiate mechanisms to cancel all agreements with Israel

The Palestinian leadership has decided to begin mechanisms to cancel all agreements with Israel, the PLO's executive secretary Saeb Erekat said on Monday.

This came after an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee to discuss the demolition of Israel residential buildings comprising more than 70 apartments in the town of Sur Bahir southeast of Jerusalem under the pretext of building without a license.

"The Palestinian leadership requested an emergency session of the UN Security Council to discuss Israel's actions in East Jerusalem," Erekat said at a press conference in Ramallah after the meeting.

He said that if the US administration objected to the convening of the Security Council or a decision, it will be addressed to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

What Israel had done today in East Jerusalem was "a war crime and a crime against humanity under international law, and we hold the Israeli Government fully responsible for the consequences of these crimes."

"We are in front of unprecedented steps, especially as Israel has repudiated all the agreements," Erekat said, adding that "Israel's lack of international accountability gave it the green light to carry out its crimes."

He declared that the Executive Committee of the PLO had decided to stop dealing with the Israeli court system as a key tool to implement and consolidate the occupation policies and legal follow-up to prosecute Israel before the Palestinian national courts.

Erekat said that "Israel is escalating its practices against the Palestinians and their property under the cover of the American administration," pointing out that what is being a clear message to the Arab countries that seek normalization with Israel.

The Israeli authorities today demolished dozens of apartments in the Wadi al-Homs neighborhood in the village of Sur Baher in East Jerusalem.
