"Starbucks" withdraws a quarter million coffee piston .. And expected losses in millions

Starbucks Corp. has decided to withdraw more than a quarter of a million hands-free pistols sold more than two years ago after receiving reports of its crash during use, causing injuries to some of its users.

The company, which has thousands of coffee shops around the world, aims to pull out nearly 263,000 coffee presses, the Wall Street Journal said.

The draw includes 231,000 units in the United States and 33,000 in Canada, sold between 2016 and 2019.

Starbucks will suffer a loss of $ 5.3 million if all the pistons made in Portugal are returned, with one sold for about $ 20.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the Canadian Health Authority is organizing the drawdown, in coordination with the US Consumer Product Control Committee and the Starbucks chain.

The Health Authority of Canada and the Consumer Protection Commission in the United States announced that the plastic handle that top the machine may break when the user presses the piston, making the metal bar exposed, and therefore there is a risk of injury to users.

The US authorities have recommended users stop using the product and contact Starbucks to get coupons from their stores.

Users reported exposure to compressor-related accidents, 8 in the United States and one in Canada.
