With the spread of Corona. Euro-Mediterranean Observatory calls for release of prisoners from occupation prisons

The Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights, demanded today, Tuesday, Israel for the immediate release of prisoners in its prisons in light of the dangers of the crisis of the great spread of the Corona virus.

The Observatory said in a statement: Hundreds of prisoners of Israel face a great danger after it was revealed that a psychiatrist in a prison had been infected with the virus, which was in contact with detainees during his work, in addition to wounding a prisoner as well.

The Euromed Observatory warned that the reality of the cells in the occupation prisons are highly exposed to the spread of the virus infection in them, as they are crowded with detainees and lack the necessary infrastructure to limit the spread of the disease in them.

The Euromed Observatory highlighted that, whether in Egypt, in Saudi Arabia, in the United Arab Emirates, or in Israel, tens of thousands of political detainees are still lying behind bars of prison, in light of unprecedented fears for their fate in the event of infection.

Given the inability to tackle the spread of the virus and the threat to the lives of detainees in prisons, the Euromed Observatory for Human Rights called for the immediate release of the prisoners and for the provision of health care to preserve their lives, which are no less important than others.

And two days ago, Prime Minister Dr. Muhammad Shtayyeh called on Israel to release the Palestinian prisoners in its prisons, especially the sick, the chronically ill, and the children, "in order to preserve their lives," from the dangers of an outbreak of the Coruna virus.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants condemned the "racist repression, pursuit and arrest" of the Israeli police against Palestinian youths who launched an awareness initiative on preventing the spread of the "Corona" virus in Jerusalem.

In a press statement, the ministry considered that the arrest of 12 Palestinians who participated in this event "constitutes the summit of organized state terrorism practiced by the occupation authorities against the Palestinian national and humanitarian presence in the holy city."
