U.S. State Department: Washington is not ready to unveil its Middle East peace plan

Washington _ Palestine News Network

The US State Department said the United States is not yet ready to reveal its plan for peace in the Middle East, the long-awaited proposal already rejected by the Palestinians.

"We are not ready to disclose it," ministry spokeswoman Heather Nuert told reporters in a daily briefing on Thursday in response to a question whether the new US peace agreement was ready to be put forward.

Added:  " We will disclose it when we are ready, "refusing to disclose any details about the initiative or give a time frame for its launch.

Jason Greenblatt, a senior US diplomat closely involved in the plan´s process, told the media that the US negotiators had entered the "pre-launch phase of the plan."

Even before it was disclosed, Gwant Kouchner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump and one of its main architects, raised suspicions that the Palestinian side rejected after Washington´s pro-Israel moves raised serious questions about its stance as a neutral mediator.

On Monday, the Trump administration announced its decision to close the PLO office in Washington, in a new step to escalate pressure on the Palestinians.

Earlier this year, the United States reduced a large proportion of its funding to Palestinians to force them to return to the negotiating table.

In December last year, Washington recognized the occupied city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, in a provocative move announced by Trump himself, sparking widespread global outrage and pushing the Palestinian leadership to boycott Washington´s efforts for a political settlement.
