The United Nations appointed on Wednesday evening, a new Commissioner for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), after the resignation of its former president amid accusations of misconduct.
United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced that United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appointed Swiss Philippe Lazarini as the new Commissioner-General of UNRWA.
It is noteworthy that Lazarini previously worked for the United Nations in Lebanon and Somalia.
The agency faces a funding crisis after the United States suspended its annual contribution of $ 300 million to UNRWA in 2018.
