A scientific study has reported that increasing the speed of Internet connection in the home is affecting the people living in the household in terms of their exposure to longer-term vigilance.

A recent Italian study, conducted by the University of Bocconi, in the Italian city of Milan, showed that the technology has a remarkable impact on human sleep rates, making it more prolonged, which affects its health and performance during the day, according to the Sky News channel.

Research has found that those who connect in their home to the Internet with the largest speed "broadband" sleep for less than 25 minutes per day, compared to others with less-speed internet, the British Daily Mail quoted the newspaper as saying.

Researchers say that those with a fast internet tend to spend longer nights with video games and social networking.

The study relied on data on people´s sleeping patterns in Germany and found that young people were the most vulnerable to inadequate sleep due to fast internet access.

Lack of sleep is a cause of serious health problems such as anxiety and depression, as well as influencing the educational attainment of adolescents and young people.
