Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned Wednesday of a "fatal" blow if Palestinian militant factions resumed attacks as tensions on the border in the Gaza Strip escalated.
Netanyahu´s remarks came after Israeli soldiers were shot at the border in two separate incidents, after weeks of relative calm in the Gaza Strip.
"Maybe there is someone in Gaza who thinks he can have a head," Netanyahu said. I recommend that they understand that the response will be fatal and very painful. "
"We are ready for any scenario and any escalation," he was quoted by his office as saying after attending military training at a base in Shizavun in the Negev in southern Israel.
Israeli tanks on Tuesday bombed two Hamas positions in Gaza and killed an activist after an Israeli soldier was lightly wounded by a bullet that hit his helmet.
At night, Israeli warplanes bombed the site of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which controls the besieged sector.
Israel and Hamas have fought three wars since 2008 and there are fears of a fourth round despite the decline of violence since November under an unofficial truce.
