Media Forum calls for the protection of Palestinian journalists

The Palestinian Media Forum called today, Thursday, the International Federation of Journalists, Reporters Without Borders and the Union of Arab Journalists, to take the necessary measures to protect Palestinian journalists in light of the violations they are exposed to by the occupation.

In a statement on the occasion of the Day of Loyalty to the Palestinian Journalist, the Forum demanded that the leaders of the Israeli occupation be held accountable for their crimes, which amounted to the premeditated killing of journalists, and the last victims of Israeli terrorism were the two martyrs Yasser Murtaja and Ahmed Abu Hussein, who died during their coverage of the Return Marches in 2018.

The forum renewed its strong condemnation of the occupation forces ’targeting of media professionals who are carrying out their noble message of conveying the truth, stressing the seriousness of the deliberate targeting of Palestinian press institutions.

He called on all parties concerned with media freedoms and defending human rights to embody real global solidarity with the Palestinian journalist through various forms, especially stopping attacks and violations against journalists through a practical program to protect them and support them with various forms of support in order to enable them to continue their professional role away from all forms of pressure and intimidation.

He also called on international human rights institutions, led by the United Nations Human Rights Council, to put pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to release all detained journalists without guilt or crime other than practicing their media work, which is guaranteed by international and humanitarian laws and norms.

The Palestinian Media Forum reiterated its emphasis on the need to arrange the internal home for journalists, and to work hard to build a strong journalists´ union that includes all journalists, in order to enhance their ability to face the challenges and risks facing them, especially in light of the systematic targeting by the Israeli occupation authorities.
