Israel builds the longest wall in the world around Gaza

Gaza _ Palestine News Network

The Hebrew newspaper "Yediot Aharonot" in its annex on Friday published a lengthy report on what it described as the "longest fence in the world" around the Gaza Strip.

According to the newspaper, the wall will extend over 65 kilometers, including land and sea borders.

"Yediot Aharanot" noted that the wall would have an underground depth of tens of metres, as well as in the maritime area bordering the northwest border.

It noted that the land wall and the sea would include sensor systems through which any excavation of tunnels by land, or any movement of Hamas divers through the sea, could be detected and approached.

"The sea wall will include a breakwater," said the newspaper "Yediot Aharanot ".

The Hebrew newspaper said workers from Romania, Brazil and various countries were working in the wall, despite border clashes, missile launches and others in direct military confrontations between Hamas and the military over the past months.

General Eran Ophir, the supervising officer of the project, said he was convinced that upon completion of the construction of the wall, the biggest security threat to the Gaza cover settlers would be removed.

Added:  "No state has done by something like that ".

"There are delegations from all over the world who are coming to see how we build this wall," said General Ophir.

The construction cost of the wall is more than 3 billion shekels (NIS), the newspaper said.

According to General Ophir, the wall will reach 26 meters long to protect the army and tanks from anti-missile and direct firing, noting that 1,200 workers are building the barrier in two shifts for 12 hours around the clock, six days a week.
