The Ministry of Agriculture in the Gaza Strip said on Saturday that the damage caused by heat wave in the past few days reached to half a million dollars.
Ibrahim al-Qudra, undersecretary of the Agriculture Ministry, said the heat wave caused damage to most farms in the Gaza Strip. Pointing out that the damage count showed the death of at least 100 thousand birds worth half a million dollars.
Al-Qudra pointed out that the Ministry´s crews are still deployed among the educators in the sector and therefore to provide assistance and guidance and limit the damage. He pointed out that these crews will continue to operate at the same pace until the end of the airlift, which is expected to begin to decline today.
He called on all poultry farmers to communicate with ministry staff, and follow the instructions sent to educators on their mobile phones or located on the media sites of the ministry, in order to minimize the effects of rising temperatures.
Later, the ministry announced that it would continue to allow the entry of chilled chickens into the Gaza Strip. Noting that it asked traders to bring in new quantities of chilled chickens, because of high prices because of increased demand for it.
The ministry explained that it was keen to provide chickens in quantities and prices suitable during the month of Ramadan, stressing its role in the follow-up and search for solutions to overcome any shortage or rise in chickens.
