Gaza´s health: the drug situation is difficult and very dangerous

Munir Al-Barrash, Director General of the General Administration of Pharmacy at the Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, said on Thursday that the drug situation in the sector is difficult and very dangerous, in light of the lack of important types of essential medicines.

And Al-Borsh said in a press statement that the shortage of items exceeded 42%, 30% of medical consumables, and 56% of laboratory supplies and blood banks.

He added that the repercussions of the crisis on the overall health services are unimaginable in light of the real and urgent need of medicinal items and the basic requirements to strengthen the plan of the Ministry of Health in the face of the Corona pandemic.

He pointed out that drugs for patients with blood, especially hemophilia and specialized types of infant formula, are not available in the Gaza Strip, which puts patients in front of a bleak scene, which further exacerbates their health.

He said, "What has arrived from the ministry´s warehouses in Ramallah since the beginning of the year amounted to 2 million and 250 thousand dollars, which represents 5% of the annual need for the Ministry of Health in Gaza."

He appealed to the relevant authorities to save the health situation in Gaza due to the aggravation of the shortage of medicines and medical consumables.
