Gaza - “Al-Quds”.com - The Gaza Municipality has warned of the continued suspension of work on 13 infrastructure projects in different parts of Gaza City since last May.
The municipality stressed, in a press statement on Tuesday, that the continued suspension of work as a result of preventing the entry of necessary materials through the Israeli crossings would exacerbate the crisis situation in the city; “Especially if winter comes before the completion of the implementation of those projects.”
She stated that work on the projects has stopped since the beginning of the aggression as a result of the closure of the crossings and the prohibition of the occupation authorities from entering the materials needed for development and construction work, including bascoros, sewage manhole covers, materials needed in the manufacture of street tiles and other materials needed for projects.
She referred to 16 other projects that were supposed to start; However, the continued state of closing the crossings and preventing the entry of raw materials to implement infrastructure projects, delayed the start of their implementation.
The municipality also renewed its warning of the continued delay in the reconstruction of the streets and infrastructure that were destroyed by the Israeli targeting during the recent aggression.
She stressed that the damage left by the aggression has not been repaired until now. “What happened was the opening and settlement of the streets and intersections that were bombed, and the initial and temporary connection to the water and sewage networks and lighting lines, and the temporary maintenance of the sewage station No. 1, which was severely damaged during the aggression.”
3 damaged transmission lines
The municipality indicated that 3 main rainwater transmission lines in different areas of the city have been severely damaged, warning that the continued delay in starting repairs may cause major flooding in the streets during the upcoming rainy season.
The municipality also warned of the occurrence of soil subsidence in the bombed areas due to the intrusion of wastewater and drinking water into the ground; Which may cause dangers to the citizens and their property adjacent to the areas affected by the bombing.
The municipality called on local and international institutions to quickly intervene and pressure the occupation to open the crossings to bring in the necessary materials to resume work on the projects and to start the process of rebuilding the damage caused to the infrastructure and facilities during the aggression in order to avoid aggravating the situation and the occurrence of health and environmental crises and impeding the interests of citizens.
