EU: Israel´s demolition of Palestinian buildings in Jerusalem "illegal"

Israel´s demolition of Palestinian buildings in Jerusalem contradicts international law, an EU official said on Tuesday.

"Israeli settlement policy, including measures taken in this context, such as transport, eviction, forced evictions, house demolitions and confiscation, are illegal practices in accordance with international law," said EU Foreign Policy spokeswoman Maya Kusianic.

"We expect the Israeli authorities to stop the demolitions immediately."

Most of the buildings are located in Area A and B of the West Bank, where the jurisdiction of the Palestinian Authority falls under civil matters in accordance with the Oslo Accords.

Large Israeli army forces launched house demolitions this morning in Wad al-Homs area in the town of Sur Baher, southeast of Jerusalem.

Israel has been demolishing for security reasons, claiming that the buildings are located very close to the wall of expansion and racial annexation it has built around the West Bank.
