The Palestine Center for Prisoners Studies monitored today, Saturday, that the occupation courts issued more than 100 administrative decisions against Palestinian prisoners, since the beginning of this year.
The center said in a report, that the courts have not stopped issuing these orders despite the real danger to the lives of the prisoners, in light of the spread of the Corona pandemic and the appeals issued by many international institutions, including the United Nations, to release the administrators because they are political prisoners without indictments.
Riyadh Al-Ashqar, director of the center, explained that the administrative decisions issued since the beginning of this year amounted to (105) decisions, including (75) decisions to renew detention for additional periods extending between two months to 6 months, while it reached (5) times for some prisoners, while (30) Administrative decisions were issued against prisoners for the first time, most of them freed prisoners who were re-arrested.
Al-Ashqar indicated that the administrative orders during the past month affected all classes of prisoners, as the Ofer Court issued a decision of administrative detention for a period of 4 months against the elderly Ishaq Amin Yunus (77 years) from Ramallah, a week after he was arrested from his home and transferred to “Ofer” prison, although He suffers from chronic heart and intestine problems, in addition to severe back pain.
It also issued an administrative detention order against the sick child, Amal Muammar Nakhla (17 years), from Ramallah, who suffers from a deteriorating health condition as a result of his rare disease, while the administration renewed for the second time the right of the prisoner Shurooq Muhammad Musa al-Badan (26 years) from the town of Tuqu ´in Beit Meat.
Al-Ashqar considered that the detention policy is a tool of collective punishment against the Palestinian people, as the occupation uses it extensively without taking into account the caveats laid down by international law that limited its use, except in a narrow framework, especially as it targets all segments of Palestinian society, including MPs, leaders of factions, women, and children. The sick, and the elderly, which is considered a disregard for all norms and laws and a disregard for international institutions.
He pointed out that the number of administrative prisoners has recently increased to reach (450) prisoners, most of whom are freed prisoners who spent different periods in prisons and were re-arrested again, and most of them were renewed for other periods.
Al-Ashqar called for a serious and real international stance towards this criminal policy against the prisoners, as the occupation exploits the international law´s permission to resort to administrative detention for exceptional and compelling security reasons, and it permits itself to arbitrarily detain hundreds of Palestinians for long periods.
