12 American institutions call on the President of Congress to intervene to stop the demolition of homes in the Silwan neighborhood

Twelve institutions in support of Palestinian rights on the American arena called, through a communications campaign, directed to the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and the Speaker of the Democratic Majority in the House, Chuck Schumer, for immediate intervention to stop the Israeli decision to demolish 16 homes in the town of Silwan in occupied Jerusalem.

The institutions considered, in a statement, today, Sunday, that Pelosi and Schumer have the power to pressure Israel to stop the demolitions and to stop the policy of ethnic cleansing against the Palestinians.

The statement said, “Since May 2021, hundreds of Palestinian families in East Jerusalem, including 16 homes in the Al-Bustan neighborhood, have faced the threat of arbitrary expulsion, noting that the United States’ support for Israel and the policy of silence about its crimes against the Palestinians encourage it to commit more ethnic cleansing practices.”

Sponsors of the campaign include: Justice for Justice, American Muslims for Palestine, the Arab Center for Resources and Organization, Palestine Solidarity Group, Palestine Eyewitness, and Jewish Voices for Palestine. Change,” the Palestinian American Network, and the American Campaign for Palestinian Rights.

The campaign included suggested texts, upon contact with Pelosi and Schumer, asking them to pressure the Israeli government immediately to stop scheduled evictions of Palestinian families from their homes in Silwan, Jerusalem.

The text of the proposed communication indicated that the Palestinians are exposed to the risk of losing their homes, and that they must stop supporting and encouraging the Israeli government´s continuous violations of human rights against the Palestinians.
