India Provides $ 2 Million In Support Of "UNRWA"

The Indian government provided $ 2 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, "UNRWA", to support the agency´s programs and basic services, including education, health care, relief and social services.

The representative of the Republic of India, Sunil Kumar, confirmed, during the ceremony for the presentation of the money, in Ramallah, today, Thursday, India´s support for the agency and its services provided to Palestinian refugees.

He expressed his appreciation for the work and efforts made by "UNRWA", noting that this contribution will support the Agency´s activities in providing its services to refugees, and contribute to alleviating the financial crisis facing it.

For her part, Acting Director of External Relations of UNRWA Tamara Al-Rifai appreciated this donation to support refugees in this critical period, praising the role of the Indian government and its continuous funding to the Agency, and its support for Palestinian refugees throughout the Middle East.

It is noteworthy that during the ministerial conference to collect donations for "UNRWA" that was held on June 23, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Moralid Haran, announced that India would contribute $ 10 million to "UNRWA" over the next two years.

India has also increased its annual financial contribution to UNRWA from $ 1.25 million in 2017 to $ 5 million over the past three years.
