5 earthquake hits Greece

A five-magnitude earthquake struck central Greece at dawn on Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The Athens National Observatory said the underwater earthquake occurred at 1:02 local time (2202 GMT) at a depth of 12.7 km in the Gulf of Corinth, about 100 km west of Athens.

The tremor was felt in the capital as well as in the Peloponnese.

Greece earthquakes earthquakes on a regular basis because it is located on a number of geological fault lines.

Two people died in Samos in October 2020 as a result of a 7.0-magnitude earthquake in the Aegean Sea, which also killed 114 people in the Turkish coastal city of Izmir.
