New York: Al-Maliki briefs his Belgian counterpart on the latest Palestinian developments

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Al-Maliki, briefed on Tuesday, Belgian Foreign Minister Sophie Willems, on the latest Palestinian developments.

During the meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Al-Maliki stressed the importance of bilateral action and finding a practical mechanism to protect our Palestinian people, achieve their inalienable rights, and focus on the roots of the crimes they are exposed to, which is the prolonged colonial occupation.

He also touched on the nos of the occupying government, Naftali Bennett, against the Palestinian state, the crimes of its forces against our people, and its insistence on depriving our Palestinian people of elections, by refusing to hold them in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Al-Maliki called on Belgium and other countries of the world to put pressure on Israel to carry out its duties and allow our holy people to exercise their right to nominate and vote in the elections in a practical way in the city of Jerusalem.

He stressed that Israel (the occupying power) continues to build illegal colonial settlements to make them a reality, which is unacceptable, and undermine peace efforts and the two-state solution based on the rules and resolutions of international law.

He also called on the international community to pressure the occupying power to stop settlements, in order to preserve the two-state solution.

In turn, Willems expressed her support for the rights of the Palestinian people, and her country's readiness to play its role in order to maintain peace in the region.
