US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israeli and Palestinian Affairs Hadi Amr arrived in Tel Aviv today.
The US State Department said in a statement, today, Friday, that Amr "will work to reinforce the need to work for a sustainable calm, and the recognition of Israel´s right to self-defense."
She added: Israelis and Palestinians deserve equal measures of freedom, security, dignity and prosperity.
And US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Wednesday (May 12, 2021) that the United States will send a high-level diplomat to the Middle East to urge the Israelis and Palestinians to calm down the "horrific violence."
He added: I asked Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs (for Israeli-Palestinian affairs) Hadi Amr to head to the region immediately to meet the Israelis and Palestinians ... He will speak on my behalf and President (Joe) Biden, about de-escalation. "
Hadi Amr is currently the deputy assistant foreign minister for Israeli and Palestinian affairs in the ministry´s Middle East office. He previously worked at the State Department between 2013 and 2017 as part of Secretary of State John Kerry´s team working on Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. From 2010 to 2013, he held the position of Deputy Assistant Director for the Middle East at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), where he helped coordinate several aid programs across the region during the Arab uprisings. He previously held positions at the US Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security.
The occupation launches a violent aggression on Gaza and all the Palestinian territories, resulting in the death of 134 citizens (123 in Gaza, 10 in the West Bank, and one in Lod), and hundreds of others were wounded.
